Lachlan Redd earned his Master of Music degree in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York in 1999, supported by the Queen’s Trust for Young Australians and a scholarship. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate studies at the Australian National University, graduating with first-class honors and receiving the University Medal in 1997.
Competitions and Performances
In 1995, Redd won First Prize at the Fourth International Youth Music Festival Virtuosi of the Year 2000 Competition in St. Petersburg, which led to a notable performance at the historic Mariinsky Theatre with the Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra. He also became a finalist in the inaugural ABC TV Quest Competition and won the Keyboard Finals of the Young Performers Awards in 1996. At the young age of 22, Redd substituted for Bruno Leonardo Gelber in two performances of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, earning standing ovations from the audience.

Redd performed extensively for ABC as a concerto performer and recitalist, featuring in simultaneous broadcasts on ABC TV and Classic FM. He collaborated with numerous ABC orchestras, including the Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmanian, and Queensland Symphony Orchestras, and worked with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Verbitsky, Michael Halasz, Nicholas Braithwaite, Janos Furst, and Yan Pascal Tortellier.

In 2000, Lachlan Redd participated in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition. Since January 2001, he had been awarded a full scholarship at The Australian National Academy of Music.
